Holocaust Education Network

A forum promoting best practice in Holocaust instruction

Greetings.  A friend of mine who teaches at a community college said
that a colleague of hers was having difficulty locating a book that
would provide a thorough examination of the background of the Holocaust
for her students.  In the past she has used Barbara Rogasky's Smoke and Ashes: The Story of the Holocaust.  Evidently, it is out of print so they want a new title.  I immediately suggested The World Must Know (Berenbaum) and Tell Them We Remember (Bachrach).  Please let me know if you have any other suggestions of titles.  Your help is appreciated.

Social Studies School Service carries materials (books and multimedia) from a variety of publishers. The print catalog includes a special section on the Holocaust but you should be able to bring up a similar list when searching online.
Sara,
I apologize for this being so late. I have checked into the Ning for a while and I keep telling myself "I will check in weekly". I have failed miserably in this. However, Rabbi Alan Alpert and I have prepared to teach a Holocaust 101 course and the book recommend to us was by Doris Bergen, "War and Genocide: A Concise History of the Holocaust". Again, sorry. I hope I get better at this.
